Interlaced affair Patch rows dimpled under summer hail Where growing vines sport fruit for the taking And e'en this symbol of threat under veil Was enough to set my heart breaking Ice pellets strutted and stormed, With a flash all the field bathed in lightning In the farmhouse though front fire warmed The day after was all the more frightening. The morning arose without thunder And the sun poked her head above raincloud But my spirit remained wrenched asunder And the tears streaked my cheeks as a stain proud. For you left while the tempest was raging, Now the oak and I contemplate ageing.
